VoiceMemo for Instinct S30

I’ve written a VoiceMemo app that currently works fine on the Instinct S30 (M810). Once the MR-6 update is released, it should work fine on the M800, but that remains to be seen.

VoiceMemo version 1 is already available on Instinct-Softare.com

VoiceMemo version 2 is about to be released and includes several enhancements

1) Multiple Memos – limited only by available space on the microSD Card
2) Ability to Rename, Play/Pause, Rewind, Email, and Delete existing memos.
3) a Timer shows the time recorded during a recording session
4) Maximum Memo length is 30 minutes, but you can change the default max to 5, 15, or 30 minutes.
5) default email address to send memos to.

Price is $2.99 for Version 2.x

UPDATE: Version 2.1 is available – it works on the S30 and the M800 (with the MR-6) update.

KBui and the S30

KBui is a user interface written by KillerBeagle – it is available from our site Instinct-Software.com

This UI for the phone allows complete customization of backgrounds, icons, and layout. Larry (KillerBeagle) has given us the ability to choose from many different “button types” that define what the button will do when pressed.

Some of those are the ability to load the Handmark Pocket Express apps via the phone’s AMS. The Handmark Pocket Express app provides the original Instinct (M800) with News, Sports, Weather, Entertainment News, etc. There are dedicated buttons in the phone’s UI for these on the Web tab.

On the Instinct S30 (M810) – those same dedicated buttons for the Handmark Pocket Express app are present in the phone’s UI, however, Sprint did NOT include the Handmark Pocket Express software with the Instinct S30. Those icons now load pages on the vision.sprintpcs.com website.

If you can find a copy of the Handmark Pocket Express app – you can install it on the S30 – the problem is that it won’t “connect” itself to those dedicated buttons on the S30.

But – if you have a copy of KBui installed – and since it has the ability to load the Pocket Express apps – you get the best of both worlds – access to the Handmark Pocket Express app through the KBui calls – and access to the vision.sprintpcs.com website via the dedicated buttons of the phone’s UI.

Kinda sweet!

LWUIT Speed Benchmark

Taking Shai’s advice from a comment to one of my previous posts, I downloaded the .svn for LWUIT. Included in that .svn was a benchmark program to test various LWUIT functions on a device. So I ran it on the Instinct and have posted photos below. I am yet unsure how these numbers compare to other devices, but I suspect the Instinct will show to be an inferior device.

It’s hard to get a photo of good enough quality to show all the values clearly, so here they are:

  • Framerate/Blit = 9 fps
  • Drawing 2D = 2 fps
  • Gradient = 2 fps
  • Bitmap Fonts = 5 fps
  • Scaling = 5 fps
  • Indexed Image = 6 fps
  • List = 2 fps
  • Components = 9 fps
  • Score = 404
