Android Market Weirdness

I keep a browser window open to my developer console for the Android Market – and occasionally refresh it to see any changes. Today, after a refresh, it’s starts this crap and would pop up this dialog every 15-20 seconds – I click ok, it loads the data, then pops it up again – over and over and over. Very weird.

I either get this, or I get a 404 – every now and then, I get to see the statistics – until it pops up the permission denied dialog again. Nothing seems to help either, I’ve closed Firefox, rebooted – same thing.

is it Ghadafi? or Qaddafi?

Channel hopping during this Libyan conflict finds every major news network using a different spelling for this kook’s name.

CNN uses ‘Ghadafi’, Fox News Channel uses ‘Qaddafi’, and MSNBC uses ‘Khaddafy’ – I’m sure I’ve seen others.

The U.S. Government uses ‘Qadhafi’ on the State Dept site (http://www.state.gov/r/pa/ei/bgn/5425.htm#gov)

I got curious which was correct – apparently they all may be. I found this post (http://virtuallinguist.typepad.com/the_virtual_linguist/2011/03/gaddafi-or-qaddafi-or-kadhafi-or-khadafy-.html) which sheds some light on the matter.

Food Supply Woes

I know this is not a major food supply issue like the Japanese are currently facing with the radioactivity found in their food supply chain. I mention it as a reminder to us all to check those expiration dates – you certainly can’t trust your local big business grocery chain to do it.

We bake a lot of bread in this household. The other day, I added yeast to our shopping list – we use that Fleischmann’s Active Dry yeast that comes in packs of three.

On Saturday, March 19, 2011, my wife comes back from the grocery store (Albertsons in Crowley, Texas) with a package of the yeast they had on the shelf. The expiration date is “Jun 09 2008″.

If the date was Jun 2011, or even Jan 2011, I could understand this still being on the shelf, but Jun 2008? WTF?

Our shopping habits may be about to change, there’s a Krogers across the street.
