Instinct BH29 Firmware Update
filed in apps on Sep.25, 2008
On Tuesday the 23rd, Sprint posted on the Buzz About Wireless forum that Wednesday might not be the release date for the past due firmware update.
According to that post, the 24th was just going to be the day of a go/no go decision and they would tell us late in the day if the update would be released.
Sprint waited until after 5 PM CDT to decide and YEA! it’s a go!
So far I’m impressed. The browser is much faster and scrolls better. I think this is where the browser should have been when the phone was released back in June. I still have issues with the text not wrapping on some sites, and they jacked up my favorites list but that is easy enough to repair.
Other things that I have noticed:
- calendar alarms can be set with notification prior to the appt
- voicemail ringtone works instead of playing the text msg ringtone
I’m sure there are other things since the update involved 249 items.
Some things are not corrected (perhaps by design):
- can’t delete builtin ringers
- can’t remove sprint store from browser bookmarks
Since BH29 was a firmware update, I’m curious to know if that opens the door for updates to some of the builtin apps like the Music Player which still sux.

Just installed BH-29 and browser bookmarks were reset – all personal bookmarks were deleted. I called Sprint tech support who told me this was a “feature” of this upgrade. When pressed further they reported that a couple of other customers had called in with this problem, therefore, it must be intentional and part of the upgrade to do so! :-/ I requested to be transferred to a supervisor who was equally unhelpful, notifying me that my software had previously only been “partially updated” and that this latest update wiped out the bookmarks, which was “normal”!!! She did not seem to know about BH-29 either, insisting that my phone should correctly reflect BF-30 as the latest upgrade (which, of course, was the update prior to BH-29). Anyone have hints/tips on backing up favorites?

Craig – it hosed my bookmarks as well – luckily I only had a few so it wasn’t that painful.
From reading the forums, it’s a pretty well known fact that Sprint support has no clue.
I don’t know of a way to backup your bookmarks. From what I have read, you are just SOL this round. Hopefully, Sprint has learned something and won’t do that to us again.
I will dig around in the phone and see if I can find where the bookmarks are stored. If we can find them, then maybe we can back them up.
Would be handy to have a routine to backup everything on the phone – photos, contacts, contact photos, bookmarks, appointments, notes and music.
